Boston Basement Rehab: Moving Along With Plaster, Tile & Cabinets

Our inspections are all done so the Darosa Brothers from New Bedford moved in in full force to hang gypsum plaster board and plaster all the walls and ceilings. They also repaired and blended an existing curved ceiling in the stairwell.
This type of veneer plaster construction is quite common in this part of New England and these guys can handle anything from an 8×5 bath remodel to large commercial projects. This work is very specialized and every crew is lead by a master who knows when to trowel it and when to leave it alone.
After these guys were done we let the plaster cure for a week and then they returned to spray primer and ceiling paint. I took a ride to Ikea, loaded up 3 carts of Akurum cabinets and spent the next 2 days assembling and installing everything. These cabinets are a great value and can last a long time if they are handled carefully during assembly and anchored well when they are installed.
I use a little polyurethane glue when I assemble the cabinet boxes to help lock everything together. This particular job has some great features including a cleaning cabinet, pull out bins and a built in ironing board.
Once the cabinets were in place we leveled any low spots in the slab and installed Scluder Ditra underlayment. This product provides a waterproof barrier and isolates the tile from any cracks and movement in the slab below. Our tile floors are underway and next up we get going on doors and trim.
