SBK Unlimited Spring Teaser

Scott has some great projects coming up in the next few months, including becoming a dad for the second time! While he’s getting the nursery ready and getting plans in place for a renovation with a repeat-repeat customer we thought that posting a couple of projects from last year (pre-Green Redux) would be interesting for readers to check out.

Boston Basement Rehab: Moving Along With Plaster, Tile & Cabinets

Our inspections are all done so the Darosa Brothers from New Bedford moved in in full force to hang gypsum plaster board and plaster all the walls and ceilings. They also repaired and blended an existing curved ceiling in the stairwell.

Boston Basement Rehab: Roughing it
We’ve framed up the new stud walls in the basement. A pressure treated sole plate is used where the walls site on the slab to prevent any future insect or rot problems. The heat pipes will remain exposed, but I want to leave as little exposed mechanicals above as possible so we built soffits over various pipes. When doing this it is very important to leave access to any valves, junction boxes, etc.

Boston Basement Rehab: Electrical
Things have moved ahead with the basement project. D&F Services finished their work in a couple of days and then we moved in for round two. After setting up temporary power and lighting, we had Mr. X the electrician (one of SBK’s best kept secrets) start his work. The first order of business was an update of the old electrical service. The power was cut to the building and a new 200 amp service was installed.

Boston Basement Rehab: Demo Time
Our demo team from D&F Services has done a great job moving along in this phase of the basement rehab. Prior to demolition, the plumbing (water & gas) was capped and the fixtures removed. There was a 1/2 bath, gas stove (with no venting) and laundry. Any live water or gas pipes were painted orange to call attention to them. All the electrical fixtures were removed including overhead flourescent lighting and temporary lighting was put in place.

SBK Unlimited Boston Basement Rehab
