SBK Unlimited Spring Teaser

Scott has some great projects coming up in the next few months, including becoming a dad for the second time! While he’s getting the nursery ready and getting plans in place for a renovation with a repeat-repeat customer we thought that posting a couple of projects from last year (pre-Green Redux) would be interesting for readers to check out.
Tropical Salvage: Giving Old Wood New Purpose

Tropical Salvage is one of those business models that just makes sense. This company salvages wood in Indonesia, including reclaimed demolition salvage and mining “entombed wood”, and uses it to do business that creates positive economic, social and environmental change.
Habitat ReStore: Making a Difference With Recycled Building Materials

Habitat for Humanity Portland, Evergreen, Willamette West, and Mount Hood join forces at Habitat ReStore creating a recycled building materials re-sale center. Fabulous Recycled Furniture Finds at Reside

Mid-century modern furniture and accessories have found shelter at Reside in Cambridge, Massachusetts, while looking for a new home. The pieces are gently used and in excellent condition (read: affordable style). Reside picks from private collections and auctions to bring together an ever-evolving stock of original designs, including rare and hard to find pieces. The store also showcases original artwork and photography by local and emerging artists. Online at www.resideinc.com.
The Role of Preservation in Sustainable Design

While to many the term historic preservation conjures up images of drafty, energy inefficient dwellings, renovation of old buildings can maintain the principles of 3R living: reduce, reuse and recycle. Preservation and green building have many common goals such as material reuse and creating a long, purposeful life cycle. Preservation is about sustainability.
Boston Basement Rehab: Moving Along With Plaster, Tile & Cabinets

Our inspections are all done so the Darosa Brothers from New Bedford moved in in full force to hang gypsum plaster board and plaster all the walls and ceilings. They also repaired and blended an existing curved ceiling in the stairwell.
Making It Go Round: Recycled House Parts

This Old House’s Jordan Novet has put together a great list of “house part thrift stores” bringing to light the thriving second life of unused construction materials, and where to find them. Many of our favorite stomps made the list, like Build It Green! NYC and the Building Materials Resource Center Building Materials Resource Center, where you’ll find donations from Scott’s company SBK Unlimited.
